Artist's Bio - Willow Hollow Creations

Hi All! I’m Susie Krichbaum of Willow Hollow Creations

I am a self-taught and still learning artist. I started to sell my art 26 years ago when my son was born and officially became a stay at home mom when my daughter was born 4 years later, leaving my nursing career behind. I began to dabble in so many different types of genres that it was hard to come up with one I enjoyed the most. For years I primarily created Primitives and Folk Art, but over the last several years I have added a large splash of Halloween art which I sell under the name of “The Irish Witch of WHC” where a little witch craft, I mean little witches I craft can be found. I love the glitter and glimmer of vintage Halloween, but I also am partial to the more earthy organic elements to adorn my witch dolls. You will see a little bit of both in my work, it just depends on my mood. I feel inspired by a variety of things, which is probably why I have so many ideas spread out through all types of mediums. A mixture of soft sculpture and clay sculpture are the basics for my doll art, using the stems from pumpkins, the reddish fur from the saw palmetto for hair, and grape vines add that natural touch.

In addition to dolls and critters, I also create painted canvas décor for the table or floor. This started one day when I stumbled upon a floor cloth painted on the back of a piece of linoleum. The thought of making useful art for home décor was very exciting to me. Once I got started I was hooked. I started doing some research on early floor cloths and realized I really wanted to create these pieces of art on canvas. This took a couple years of trial and error in my garage studio, until I figured out the perfect process for me. I immediately saw other applications for these painted canvas pieces, such as table runners, welcome banners and table mats to name a few.

I’m thrilled to be invited to participate in PFATT Marketplace again this year, and I’m proud to announce that I was published in the Fall 2015 addition of Prim by Stampington Press. There’s a little witch in all of us.
