“Apple Gourd Birdhouse"

For this month on the marketplace I am offering this great Apple Gourd Birdhouse with sculpted accents! This is an apple gourd, I drilled out an opening in the front for the birds to enter, I have cleaned out all of the seeds but left the inside natural. I sculpted some leaves around the original stem of the gourd along with a squiggly little stem. Around the opening I sculpted some more leaves and a squiggly stem that surrounds the opening. I have drilled a hole on both sides of the gourd, towards the top, and then inserted a wooden dowel for hanging. From the wooden dowel I have attached a piece of copper wire. I have painted the birdhouse with acrylic paints and then antiqued it. I then coated it with several coats of varnish for outside durability. The body of the gourd is 6” high and about 8” wide, this does not include the stem and what I have added for hanging.
