Soft In The Head
Up, UP and Away with the The Gorgonzola Express

As a child you grow up with all kinds of Christmas stories about Santa and his wonderful reindeer. I know that by the time I was three years old I could name everyone of them including Rudolph. I especially had a fondness for the stories that would put our fuzzy little animal friends in the roles of our beloved fictional characters. We never worried about why a dog could talk or a cat could sing, all we knew is that they were telling a story and their cuteness brought the story closer to our hearts. This is what I wanted to do with my “ever” popular mouse in the shoe pin-keeps! I never dreamed that the response for this vignette would be so huge! I love making these using shoes that have seen a lot of miles. They always make me daydream a bit about the wearer of the shoes and how each day in their small lives brought such wondrous adventures. Maybe some of the mice I have added to these shoes express a little bit of that childhood magic! The “Gorgonzola Express” is my newest “pin-keep”. It measures approximately 20” long and is about 7” high at the tallest point. The reindeer are made from dyed muslin with shading added to accent their faces and antlers. The antlers are made from bent and twisted rusty wire, a very time consuming process, and their noses are tiny rusty jingle bells. Each reindeer has four rusty nail legs and are mounted atop a 1/8” dowels, which is secured into a distressed and crackle painted board. To add some giggles each reindeer wears, proudly, a rusty safety pin in his rump for his tail. All the reindeer have red wool harnesses with rusty bells and rusty wire reins. Santa Mouse is made from painted and distressed muslin. Wool felt is added for the trim and sheep wool is needle felted on for his beard. Santa has rusty wire legs with wool felt boots and rusty safety pin arms, which are holding tightly onto the wire reins. Santa’s best friend the Snow Mouse is made from dyed batting and also has rusty safety pin arms and a rusty wire tail. The sled is a children’s shoe that has been painted antiqued, waxed and distressed. It holds a red brush flannel pincushion inside and then a wool “Santa’s Pack” on top of that. This is an absolutely wonderful piece and I had a blast putting it together. The pictures can only do partial justice to this piece. This is a “ONE OF A KIND” piece. I will not make any more. The Gorgonzola Express is an original “Soft in the Head” design by P.K. Gracia and will come signed and dated. Toe Tappin’ Tessie
During the “snowy” season up North you will always find the “Winter Folk” having one of their loud, rip-roarin’ dance-a-thons! Snow people love to shake their frosty backsides and will find any excuse to turn up the volume and do so. Tessie was bound and determined to win the contest with some new steps she had been working on. Wait till “ice cold” Bianca gets a look at what she, Tessie, can do now. Toe Tappin’ Tessie is made from painted and distressed osnaburg and muslin. She measures approximately 21” tall. She is mounted onto a dowel, which is secured into a wood plank. The wood plank has been painted and crackled. Tessie has wired legs and arms that can be posed. Her head is made from osnaburg and her hands are wool felt. Tessie has a painted and stitched face. She is wearing a painted straw hat with a rusty wire and wool felt ornament. Her dress is both a plaid corduroy with green flannel sleeves. The apron is flannel and has red min-ball trim and her pantaloons are a tan and red ticking with lace trim. Tessie is carrying her party banner, which lets everyone know what her first love is, “Snow Dancing”.
