Frog and Mouse Excursion

This is probably one of the most detailed pieces I've ever done, and certainly the most time consuming in the past year. But I love frogs, and especially HUGE bullfrogs, which serenade us throughout the spring and summer from our garden pond. This one took about a week and a lot of frustrating making and re-making, but I'm finally happy with the finished amphibian! I put one of the mice I made last month on for a ride, and together they're off for an adventure!

He is about 6 1/2 inches long and 3 1/2 inches at his tallest spot (not counting the mouse.) The mouse is about 3 inches sitting (from head to bum.) The reins are made from nylon cord and are attached under the frog. The frog's toes are embroidery floss wrapped wire, and his eyes are glass beads, as are the mouses.

This sculpture was needle felted, the art of sculpting wool using long barbed needles. This is a very long process, poking the wool thousands and thousands of times. Every item I make is lovingly hand made and many hours have gone into their creation. All wool used in my creations was raised on our family farm in the hills of West Virginia and is completely hand processed by me.
