Our little Charlotte plays her first recital with her beloved canary looking on...
This new painting is just a glimpse into the doll sized world of Charlotte. She loves to decorate! And she's not afraid to use pattern...striped walls, checked floor. And look at those fabulous turquoise curtains!
We worked on this painting for a very long time before we realized that Charlotte needed to hang some wall art in her tiny little conservatory. Check out those itty bitty framed "instant relatives", they are actual shrunken down versions of antique photos. We couldn't help but give Charlotte decorating taste that very much resembles our own. The chandelier and miniature piano are near replicas of ours at home. Creating this piece was like assembling our own little fantasy land...cupcakes & tea, teeny tiny sheet music, vintage cabinet cards, vintage millinery, turquoise chandelier crystals, old gilded frames, a scrolly birdcage...we're actually a bit jealous of Charlotte's little world!
This piece measures 11" x 14" on a 3/4" thick wooden board painted mocha and distressed and antique washed. There are fine glitter highlights on the cupcakes, teacup, chandelier, piano keys, canary, and on Charlotte's tiny corsage.

Fourth of July cupcakes 4" x 4 "
We'll easily stray from our pastel color palette when it comes to patriotic art. The colors and feel of classic Americana have always been close to our hearts. Red, white, and blue with touches of parchment...flags, red roses, stars...all conjure feelings of summer, family and long days on the porch.
That tiny platter of patriotic cupcakes is a downsized print of our 8 x 10 original painting. It's hand cut and set against a clipping from a vintage holiday party decorating book. We did the little scallop border in classic red gingham, reminiscent of the picnic table cloths at your annual family reunion. The beveled trim is done in scrap paper that looks just like denim, because what's more American than blue jeans? The outermost edge is done in vintage recipe clippings to tie back in with the cupcake theme.
This is one of our favorite 4 x 4 plaques probably because it works for everyone. You don't have to question whether it suits your decor because it's so festive and celebratory that it stands on it's own.
