COURAGE OF AMERICA

The American Eagle-A symbol of our country’s courage and freedom. It can also a picture of God’s protection over us when we take refuge and find courage under His wings.

This piece is based on a great pattern by Erika’s Cupboard. It measures approx. 16” high with a 19” wing span. (Please note that the caned area and green metal in the background is just the back drop that I used and is not part of the piece).

DETAIL OF EAGLE’S FACE

This is made from grunged muslin and is hand painted and sanded to give it a great timeworn look. The wings are quilted muslin on felt. They have been severely coffee stained and baked. The shield is stitched, hand painted and aged. I have hand stitched the “Courage” banner and added two rusty stars to either end.

BACK DETAIL

I have stitched a powerful reminder from Psalm 91 on the back of his wings. This detail is printed on muslin that has been primitively handstitched to attach it.
